As a company with nearly three decades of experience in the print industry, PSE understands the impact our work has on the environment. Paper production, in particular, has long been a core part of what we do, and with that comes responsibility. That’s why sustainability has always been at the forefront of our minds, guiding our decisions and shaping our practices for many years.

The awareness around the environmental impact of the print industry has come a long way, but we recognise that there is still much to be done. At PSE, sustainability goes beyond just reducing our environmental footprint—it is a fundamental belief that permeates everything we do. From smarter data profiling to the materials we choose and how we produce our work, sustainability is embedded in the way we run our business and serve our clients.

The Core of Our Sustainability Efforts

Sustainability at PSE isn’t just about creating a positive public image—it’s about driving lasting change. We are committed to a future where our business practices and environmental responsibility go hand in hand, delivering results that benefit not only our clients but also our planet.

Here’s a closer look at the key areas where we make a difference:

1. Waste Reduction:
One of the most important aspects of sustainability is waste reduction, yet it is often overlooked. By using smart data profiling and targeting the right audience, we can help our clients reduce the number of items sent. This not only saves money but also reduces the environmental impact of unnecessary mail. By reaching the right people, we ensure every piece of Direct Mail serves its purpose, contributing to a more sustainable approach.

2. Sustainable Materials:
The trees used in paper production are essentially a renewable resource, much like a farmer grows crops for harvest. However, the key is ensuring that these trees are sustainably grown and harvested. That’s why we prioritise FSC and PEFC-accredited paper, ensuring that our materials come from responsibly managed forests. European forests, in particular, have seen significant growth in recent decades, and we’re proud to support this positive trend. By using sustainably sourced materials, we help protect vital ecosystems and contribute to biodiversity.

3. Sustainable Production Methods:
In addition to using sustainable materials, we also focus on improving the efficiency of our production methods. Advances in printing technology have made printing presses faster, more energy-efficient, and less resource-intensive. Many of the factories we work with now source their energy from renewable sources, further reducing their environmental impact. Plus, we use vegetable-based inks, which are derived from renewable sources like soybean or corn oil, making them far less harmful than traditional petroleum-based inks.

Our Initiatives in Action

Tree Planting and Mangrove Regeneration:
At PSE, we’re proud to support the Mangrove Regeneration project in Madagascar. For every campaign we deliver, we plant trees—specifically mangrove trees, which are some of the most effective at absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere. Mangroves store more carbon than traditional forests, making them an essential part of our carbon offset strategy. This initiative not only helps combat climate change but also supports six UN Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty alleviation in the local communities.

Carbon Balancing:
For the past four years, PSE has been offsetting the carbon emissions associated with paper production through our partnership with the World Land Trust. Initially offered as an option, carbon offsetting has now become a standard part of every campaign we produce. We chose the World Land Trust because of their credibility, their patrons (including Sir David Attenborough), and their focus on protecting natural ecosystems and conserving biodiversity. With every tree we plant and every ton of CO2 we offset, we are helping to preserve habitats for endangered species and protect the planet for future generations.

A Commitment to Long-Term Sustainability:
As we approach our fourth decade in business, we’re focused on ensuring that our sustainability practices continue to evolve. We are committed to fostering long-term relationships with our clients, partners, and suppliers, while delivering industry-leading campaigns that prioritise sustainability. Our efforts to reduce waste, use sustainable materials, and offset our carbon footprint are just the beginning. We will continue to look for new ways to improve our practices and ensure that we remain at the forefront of sustainability in the Direct Mail industry.

We’re excited about the future and the positive impact we can make. But we also recognise that sustainability is a journey, not a destination. We’re constantly working with our team, clients, and suppliers to find innovative ways to enhance our sustainability efforts and make a lasting difference.

If you have any questions about our sustainability practices or want to discuss how we can work together to create more sustainable campaigns, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Together, we can make a meaningful impact.
